All these bands had been playing together for exactly three days.

Olivia, the singer, was an excellent student of mine. She now works for the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance. Really great person.

I was going to go to this too! In the end I decided I’d been pushing myself too hard over the weekend and I had to stay in and rest.

My favorite band name is F.T.P. because I know exactly what it stands for 🙂

    • It’s important to get your rest and stay healthy, but it was a lot of fun. Tons of angry happy people. Really good event. I guarantee there will be more.

I find it interesting that you describe the people there as “angry happy,” those two descriptions aren’t typically used together but I quite like the image it provides me.

        • I think the phrase I used is what my high school English teacher taught me to call an oxymoron. I thought the odd juxtaposition well captured the spirit of the event – a diverse group of persons who were sick as hell of being marginalized and told they can’t express themselves with confidence, coming together to prove to themselves and everyone else that they could. From personal experience, I can attest to the fact that there are few things more empowering that putting on an electric guitar for the first time. That why, back when I taught Gender Studies, the topic of my class was the role and significance of the electric guitar in modern culture.

My dad was there taking pictures for the Salt Lake Tribune also. Maybe you met him there

    • I saw a lot of photographers. This series is growing. I volunteered at the first camp for girls two years ago. My friends are the organizers of the project. They’ve come a long way in a very little while.
