Colleges Assure Prospective Students That Protesting for Gun Control Will Not Affect Their Admission

  1. Grace Lebrecht says:

Good for the University for realizing that just because we’re students doesn’t mean we don’t have the right to stand up for what we believe in without repercussions, assuming of course that it is done correctly. Peaceful protest should not be grounds for suspension or affect college applications, I find it ridiculous that students even have to worry about that but I guess that’s just the world we live in.

    • As I said to another student, these things should go without saying. Unfortunately, it seems they don’t. Students – especially around here – tend to equate grades and academic performance with personal moral worth. They seem to feel that conformity and an impeccable record will guarantee success. Consequently, there has arisen a veritable cult of the 4.0 GPA, the golden calf of our times. Sadly, these students don’t recognize that the university itself doesn’t necessarily subscribe to this mentality. If for no other reason than to indicate to students that school is about more than simply staying out of trouble, I feel it was wise for the U of U to make this public statement.
