  1. Jiahui (Karen) Chen says:

I have no idea what the film’s text means so I focused entirely on the visuals. I noticed when the film portrays people in the buildings (a group of 3 exercising and a woman walking) the angles are quite voyeuristic, and it brought into my mind the themes in Colomina’s writings we discussed. There was a very brief shot where the camera would’ve been in the line of sight of the person being filmed, all other clips were filmed from angle the subject wasn’t looking in or would have a hard time spotting.

    • Yes, this is a very ‘stalky’ film. It’s Corbusier’s The Architecture of Today, to which Colomina referred in today’s assigned reading. You see in it a very powerful embodiment of a structural dichotomy analyzed by Rosalind Krauss (our final critic of the semester): promenade/surveillance. You can find her essay on the topic in this book.
